The British Association have recently funded a project to support victims of HIV/Aids in the town of Aru, in the North East of the Congo.

The primary objective of the project it to provide material support to the women living with HIV/AIDS. The majority of these are widows or women rejected by their husbands on account of their disease. The aim of the project would be to offer them financial support to enable them to undertake something to earn a living, buy food and obtain education for their children.
The second objective will be to create a mutually supportive community, which will permit the sharing of the burden of the disease and encourage those afflicted to inform themselves and get emotional and practical support on how to continue their lives.
The third objective is an educational one, to help inform the local population about the disease, and eradicate their fear and ignorance testing to determine their medical status.

The project will be implemented by a local charity (ASESI) and the Catholic church with the guidance from on-the ground staff of the Foreign Aid Department of the German Association of the Order.
