Rural First Aid:
In the rural area around Bosansko Grahovo there is a chain of totally isolated villages where people are returning to their homes after the war. There is no electricity, telephone, running water or public transport. It is several hours walk to the main road and from there to town and medical help These have no medical support from the local town of Livno, and the second half of last year 30 people died unnecessarily because their was no basic medical support facility. Required medical support is both ongoing health checks and also basic first aid in response to accidents, snake bites etc..
The project will train and equip one person per village in first aid and medical care. It will also finance a one-off check up by the Livno town doctor of all the inhabitants. The First Aiders will also be trained on ongoing health problem recognition and become the basis of an outreach program that will be able to refer medical problems as they arise to the town hospital.

Home Care in Mostar:
The city of Mostar was one of the most brutal centres of fighting during the war, and the inhabitants continue to struggle to work together and offer the necessary support for many of the most vulnerable and needy people.

Through a local NGO, Altruist, The project has set up a care program that identifies these needy people and offers them basic support. this is both medical (with a trained nurse) and socio-phycological with a social worker. Much of the work is also done by a group of volunteers. The work involves home visits for medical check-ups and care, psychological support for the victims and also lobbying on their behalf to support them both through government initiatives and practical solutions such as finding food and medicines.
